This Date in BU Hockey--December 1

1971:  Defending national champion Terriers, in their second outing of the season, blanked Brown, 3-0 at Meehan Auditorium. Senior forward Bob Gryp scored twice and assisted on the third tally to power the offense.

BU took the lead in the first period on All-American Bob Brown's power-play blast, assisted by Gryp and Brown's blueline partner, Ric Jordan.

Gryp doubled the lead in the second period when he followed up his own shot from the left circle and slapped home the rebound.  Brown and Bob Murray had the helpers.

BU connected on the power play again in the third as Gryp converted the rebound of Captain Jake Danby's shot with Brown picking up his third point of the night.

Senior Dan Brady and Tim Regan split the netminding duties, stopping all 15 shots as the Terriers' tight-checking clamped down on the Bears' offense.

Originally a Toronto draft pick, Gryp was the first Terrier skater to reach the NHL. He had two high-scoring seasons with the AHL Boston Braves before making his NHL debut with the Bruins. The following season, 1974-75, he dressed for 27 games with the Capitals and played 46 games with Washington in 1975-76.

During three seasons as a Terrier, "Grypper" had a 41-72-113 scoring line in 88 games and was a two-time NCAA champion.
