Defender of the Week honors for Gallagher

  

Freshman Ty Gallagher was named Hockey East Defender of the Week after his three-assist effort in Saturday’s 3-3 overtime tie with BC. Gallagher, who also scored a goal in the exhibition game against the NTDP U18s, succeeds Case McCarthy who had earned top defender recognition the previous week.

The right-shot from Clarkston, Michigan, has played in all 18 games for BU with a 2-7-9 scoring line. Gallagher set the NTDP record for goals by a defenseman with 25 during his two seasons with the program.

Looking ahead

2022 recruit Lane Hutson scored a power-play goal in the NTDP U18s’ 8-2 loss to Merrimack Sunday afternoon. The 5-8 left-shot is the top scorer among U18 defenseman with a 4-18-22 line in 25 games with a +14.

 

Looking back

David Farrance has 10 points (G, 9A) in 21 games for the AHL Milwaukee Admirals.

Patrick Harper has been released by the Admirals and signed on with HPK of Finland’s Liiga.

Bobo Carpenter who began the season with Milwaukee and then was assigned to ECHL Florida, has 13 points (6G,7A) in 14 games with the Everblades.

This Date in BU Hockey: Dec. 13

1971: Defending national champion Terriers improved to 5-0-1 after routing previously unbeaten Ohio University, 9-1, at Walter Brown Arena. BU jumped to a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by captain Jake Danby and Paul Giandomenico.

Danby potted his second of the game just 39 seconds into the second period followed by three more tallies from Guy Burrowes, Toot Cahoon and Mike LaGarde for a 6-0 margin.

In the third period, goals by Ric Jordan and Melrose HS teammates Larry Abbott and Steve Dolloff made it 9-0 before a late Bobcat goal broke the shutout. Dan Brady and Tim Regan combined to make 20 saves, while OU’s beleaguered, goalie Denny Haworth, fended off 47 Terrier shots.

Danby, Giandomenico, Cahoon, Abbott, Dolloff and Regan were among the BU ‘71/’72 national champion alums who were honored during Saturday’s game against BC.
