For a third consecutive season, the Terriers skated in the Beanpot Championship game and for a third time, they came home empty-handed. Last night's loss, 2-1 to Harvard in overtime on a penalty shot, may have been the most painful.
The majority of the game, played at TD Garden before a crowd of 10,175, was spent in BU's offensive zone with the Terriers holding an overwhelming 47-16 edge in shots. After spotting the Crimson a 1-0 lead in the game's first two minutes, BU responded with a power-play goal on Greta Henderson's redirection of a Maeve Kelly blast. However the Terriers would fail to convert on any of their next six man-advantage opportunities.
Forty-nine minutes after BU tied the score, Harvard's Carla McSweeney beat Mari Pietersen on a penalty shot to dash BU's hopes of a third Beanpot title.
Harvard goalie Ainsley Tuffy, with 46 saves, earned tournament MVP honors.
Here are videos of BU's goal and Harvard's game-winner, along with Coach Tara Watchorn's post-game comments.

Looking ahead
2026 recruit Egor Shilov and a group of QMJHL standouts visited the Bell Centre in Montreal, meeting with Lane Hutson and other Canadiens. The 6'1" center was ranked #17 among North American skaters for the 2026 draft by Central Scouting. The Athletic, which ranks him at #27 overall, offers this profile.
Shilov made the jump from Russia to the USHL last season and after a successful few months with the Green Bay Gamblers, made the jump to the QMJHL with Victoriaville, where he leads the team in scoring and is top 10 in league scoring. (Though I thought he was quiet in the QMJHL Prospects Game, his poise and creativity flashed a little more at the CHL USA Prospects Challenge.) A Boston University commit, Shilov is a playmaker with first-round talent. He has work to do to round out his game defensively, but his instincts on both sides of the puck are there, and Victoriaville has used him in all situations, including on the penalty kill. He's highly skilled, with a great shot off balance (he really whips it) and a nasty release off the middle of his blade. He has a superb first touch, even in traffic, and can place pucks up under the bar from in tight with a little chip shot he loves to use around the slot. His skating can look a little unconventional, and he has work to do on his fitness, but someone is going to swing on the offensive-zone gifts he has. He's also decent in the faceoff circle. Late first/early second is my range for him.
