Terriers chilled by Winters; Celebrini shines for Canada; Women fall to NU

 


In a battle of teams in 2026 downward spirals, New Hampshire defeated BU, 4-1 at the Whittemore Center in Durham behind a pair of goals by senior Morgan Winters.

Two UNH goals came on power plays as the Terrier penalty kill—a strength throughout most of the season—was lacking for a second consecutive game.

A very subdued Coach Jay Pandolfo called his team's performance "disappointing and deflating." 

“We were all looking for a different response than we had tonight,” he added.

The first 1:23 of the game were nothing short of disastrous for the Terriers. Winters’ first goal came just 28 ticks into the game. On the rush, his sharp-angle shot from the left circle deflected off Gavin McCarthy’s stick and flew high over Mikhail Yegorov’s glove.

Moments later, a Cole Eiserman penalty put the home team on the man-advantage and they quickly converted. Winters raced into the BU end again and centered the puck to Nick Ring who got to the crease first and jammed the puck home for a 2-0 lead.

Terriers finally got on the board at the 13-minute mark after extended control in the offensive zone. Charlie Trethewey’s shot from the blueline went off the end boards and was controlled behind the goal line by Owen McLaughlin. He quickly found Ryder Ritchie near the left post and he whipped a shot home for his sixth goal of the season. McLaughlin's assist was the 100th career point for the North Dakota transfer.

The middle period was scoreless with UNH having a 13-6 shot advantage. BU’s best chances came midway through the period when both Kamil Bednarik and Sascha Boumedienne clanged consecutive shots off the crossbar.

In the third period, early back-to-back BU penalties gifted UNH with a 5-on-3 power play and Winters cashed in again at 2:18 to stretch the lead to 3-1. Desperately, the Terriers fired 12 shots on goalie Kyle Chauvette. None got past him. An empty net goal by Marty Lavins closed out the scoring. 

A sole bright spot for BU was a 35 of 63 edge at the face off dot. Bednarik won 13 of 19 while Tynan Lawrence won 10 of 16.

Winter Olympics

Looking ahead

2026 recruit Caleb Malhotra scored his 24th goal and added an assist as Brantford beat Erie, 5-1. Both came on power plays and, with the points, he established a new team rookie scoring record with 66, which leads the Bulldogs and is second among OHL rookies.

2026 or 2027 recruit Rian Chudzinski scored his 16th goal in Moncton’s 11-1 drubbing of Halifax. The right shot forward has 26 points in 39 games.   

2027 recruit James Scantlebury notched his 11th goal and added his 14th assist in Chicago’s 4-2 win against Waterloo.  

2027 recruit Freddy Meyer notched his eighth assist on the game-winner as Quebec routed Rimouski, 8-3. The defenseman has 10 points for the Remparts.

 

Women's Team 

Terriers dropped a 5-2 decision to Northeastern at Walter Brown Arena. After the Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the opening period, both teams scored once in the second. Clara Yuhn’s eighth cut the lead in half before Northeastern responded to stretch their margin to 3-1.

Neely Nicholson’s fourth goal was sandwiched between an even-strength NU goal and an empty netter.
