Game Day: BU vs. NU in the Beanpot; Watch parties coast-to-coast

The "season within a season" known as The Beanpot Tournament begins tonight with the Terriers taking on Northeastern in the second semifinal contest. Puck drop, pending the outcome of the BC-Harvard semifinal, is set for 8 p.m. NESN will air the game while live streams are available from ESPN+ and TSN+.

BU will be chasing its 33rd championship in the tournament now in its 73rd season. They'll also be looking to defend the title they won last season with wins over Harvard (7-1) and BC (4-1).

After winning the Beanpot just once in the ‘50s, BU has taken home the silver trophy 31 times in the last 60 years, including 15 of the past 31.

Terriers have advanced to the championship game 57 times. A third of those semifinal wins have come against the Huskies with BU holding an 18-5 edge in opening round match-ups. However Northeastern claimed the last two semifinal meetings--2019 and 2013.

Both teams are looking to right the ship following very difficult Januarys. Northeastern has lost its last three games and has won just once in its last seven. BU's January record of 3-5-0 includes losses in its last three outings--two against Providence and Friday's loss to BC.

Tonight's contest will be the fourth meeting between the cross-town rivals. The teams split a series in November with each winning on the road. Then on Dec. 13 in the final game at Matthews Arena, BU rallied with goals from Kamil Bednarik and Brandon Svoboda in the final two minutes to pull out a 4-3 win.

That victory kicked off BU's best stretch of games--four wins out of five--of the season, before the recent spate of offense-challenged losses.
