Terriers rebound with a 5-3 win; Brady and Jack rally Team USA; Milestone goal for Poulin; Brändli blanks Finland for Switzerland

Terriers received goals from five skaters and held off a late UNH rally to defeat the Wildcats, 5-3, at Agganis Arena to gain a split of the weekend series. 

Goal scorers were Brandon Svoboda, Cole Hutson, Jack Murtagh, Jack Harvey and Cole Eiserman. Max Lacroix made his first ever regular season start and stopped 24 shots for the win.

Terriers got on the board first when Svoboda deflected home a blueline blast by Gavin McCarthy. It was his sixth goal, tying his career high. Conrad Fondrk also assisted.  

The Wildcats matched that tally midway through the period on Cam McDonald's one-timer and the period ended 1-1.

BU regained the lead at 2:29 of the middle period when Murtagh set up Hutson for a wrister from the left circle that beat Kyle Chauvette high to the glove side. It was Hutson's ninth goal with Svoboda getting the second assist. 

Terriers increased the lead when Murtagh took a pass from Hutson, raced up the left side and made a power move to the net. He beat Chauvette to the blocker side for his fifth goal. Second assist went to Sacha Boisvert.

Late in the period Lacroix stoned Felix Gagnon who had a clean breakaway, keeping the lead at 3-1. 

BU struck early in the third period, too, converting a 2-on-1 break with a stylish Eiserman pass setting up Harvey's tenth goal. Kamil Bednarik initiated the play. 

BU maintained the 4-1 lead until the Wildcats cut the margin to one on late goals from Ryan McPherson (15:31) and Nick Ring on a power play (16:26).  They pulled Chauvette for an extra attacker but in the final minute Eiserman fought off a defender for a loose puck and popped it into the empty net.

Winter Olympics

Second period tallies by Brady Tkachuk and Jack Eichel--within one minute, both on draws--erased a 2-1 deficit as Team USA rallied to defeat Denmark, 6-3, for its second win in division play. The U.S. meets Germany today at 3:10 p.m. ET to decide the division title.

Former Terrier netminder Andrea Brändli pitched a 40-save shutout to lead Switzerland to a 1-0 upset of Finland and a spot in the Women's semifinals.

Looking ahead

2026 recruit Caleb Malhotra scored his 25th goal in Brantford's 4-2 win against Guelph. The 6'2" center has 67 points in 52 games for the Bulldogs.    

2026 or 2027 recruit Egor Shilov scored his 24th goal on a power play, assisted on two other tallies and then scored the only goal in the shootout to deliver a 5-4 win for Victoriaville over Cape Breton. Shilov's 65 points lead all QMJHL rookies and he's ninth overall in scoring.
