More recognition for Duplessis; P-O-W honors for Compher UPDATED

For the second consecutive week, freshman Vinny Duplessis received one of Hockey East’s three weekly honors. This time, following 34 saves on 35 shots in a pair of wins at Vermont, the Quebec City native was named Defensive Player of the Week. He’s the second Terrier freshman to receive that weekly honor. In January, following BU’s sweep of UMass, Drew Commesso earned the top rookie recognition.

Sophomore Jay O’Brien, with a hat trick on Saturday and an assist on Friday’s game-winner, was named to the weekly top performers list.

BU continues to move up the USCHO Weekly Poll, jumping two spots up to #11, while both ESPN’s John Buccigross  and the College Hockey News Power 16 ranked the Terriers #8. The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll pegs BU at #12.

‘70-’71 flashback: Feb. 16, 1971 BU 9 BC 4

Twelve Terriers hit the scoresheet as #2-ranked BU completed a season sweep of BC with a 9-4 win at Boston Arena. Sophomore Ron Anderson led the way with a hat trick—his second of the year against the Eagles—while junior Jake Danby recorded his team leading 21st and 22nd goals and sophomore Steve Dolloff had three assists.

The win, in the 101st contest between the Comm Ave. rivals, improved BU’s record to 20-1-1 overall and 14-1-1 in the ECAC.

BU led after one on Bob Brown’s power-play goal and broke the game open in the middle period with Anderson scoring twice and Danby and Wayne Gowing with singletons, while BC countered with one tally.

Four more goals in the third period—Danby’s second, Anderson’s third and goals from Toot Cahoon and Paul Giandomenico—pushed the lead to 9-2. Two late goals from BC made the final 9-4.

BU enjoyed a 52-23 shot advantage and converted all three power-play opportunities. Junior goalie Dan Brady picked up his ninth win in nine starts.

Women’s Team

With three points in BU’s 4-1 win over Vermont, Jesse Compher was named Hockey East Player of the Week. She assisted on the tying goal and scored the game-winner. A second-team All-American in 2018-19, Compher has now earned conference player of the week honors four times.
