#11 Terriers dropped a 2-1 decision to Vermont at Gutterson Fieldhouse in BU's first Hockey East game. The Catamounts scored the game-winner midway through the third period and the Terriers were unable to produce an equalizer.
The loss breaks a 10-game winning streak for BU at Vermont that stretched back 2017.
"We didn't play the game we needed to play," said Coach Jay Pandolfo. "We got outworked. Gotta regroup. Give them credit, they played hard.
"They blocked a lot of shots (12). We couldn't sustain enough offense, couldn't get pucks to the net," he explained. "We didn't get enough second and third chances, which was a problem."
Tynan Lawrence scored the Terrier's only goal, a first-period tally that matched a UVM score. With his third goal of the season, the St. Louis Blues first-round draft pick has point in each of his last five games and in seven of his last eight appearances going back to last season.
Mikhail Yegorov, who stopped 22 shots, had his shutout streak snapped at 85:53.
BU began the game with pace and aggressive checking in all three zones. Haoxi Wang made an early statement with a heavy shoulder check.
Two Terrier penalties changed the momentum, although neither power play produced a goal. As the second one ended, Carter Amico came out of the box to set up Caleb Malhotra for a grade A chance that goalie Jacob Oster fought off.
BU got on a heavy cycle in the O-zone, creating chances, but it was the Cats that got on the scoreboard first. After BU lost a defensive zone draw, Yegorov came up big on a shot from the slot. UVM recovered the puck and Adoni Fimis's shot from the point went in off the post to the left of a screened Yegorov.

That lead lasted just two minutes. On a three-on-two rush, Lawrence passed to Viktor Nörringer, collected the return and stickhandled down to the goal line. His centering pass glanced off a defender and past Oster. Nörringer recorded his first collegiate point and Jack Murtagh had the second assist.

BU's best chance to grab the lead came in the final minutes of the second period. First, Jonathan Morello fed Nick Roukounakis for a shot just outside the crease that was defended. Then, Olsen was robbed by Oster on a shot from the bottom of the right circle.
Terriers appeared to connect in the period's final minute when Murtagh's attempt in close was defended and Lawrence fired the loose puck home. However it was immediately waived off for goalie interference, which was upheld after a review.
Pandolfo later said "It's a shame that goal didn't count. It was a 50-50 call, could've gone either way." BU had questioned why, if there was goalie interference, no penalty was called.
In the third period, Terriers had a shot and territorial advantage but Vermont produced the only goal. After Murtagh's shot from the slot was saved, Yegorov came up big twice, stopping a point shot, then stoning Logan Renkowski on the rebound.
A turnover gave Caleb Malhotra a chance at the goalmouth, but he couldn't get the shot off.
The game winner came at 8:10 on the rush. Yegorov defended Matteo Michels' 40-foot wrister, but Zach Filak got behind the BU defense and poked home the rebound.

Yegorov was pulled for an extra attack in the final minutes, but a tying goal was not to be had.
