Game Day: BU hosts Lowell; All-Star Terriers


Terriers will play another ranked conference opponent this weekend as they begin a home-and-home series with #12 UMass Lowell. Puck drop tonight at Agganis Arena is at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be live streamed on CBS All-Access.

The teams met back on October 25th and skated to a 3-3 tie as Lowell rallied from a three-goal deficit.
The River Hawks are led by senior goalie Tyler Wall, a recent Hobey Baker Award nominee, who has a 1.97 GAA and a .936 save percentage.  Lowell's balanced offense is paced by a trio of freshmen: Matt Brown with 20 points, Carl Berglund (19) and Andre Lee (18). Senior Kenny Hausinger has 16 points. Lowell stats 

Three Terrier skaters are among the top 35 nationally in points per game. Hobey Baker nominees Patrick Harper  (1.26) and David Farrance (1.24) are 10th and 12th, respectively, while freshman Trevor Zegras is 35th at 1.05, which ranks second among rookies.

This week’s episode of Inside BU Hockey features Bernie Corbett’s interview with Coach Albie O’Connell, sophomore center Jake Wise and Lowell play-by-play broadcaster Bob Ellis. Wise, a 2018 Blackhawks draft choice, scored his first goal as a Terrier in BU’s win against Merrimack. 

Looking ahead 
2020 recruit Jay O’Brien scored a pair of goals in Penticton’s 5-2 winagainst West Kelowna. With 19 goals and 33 assists, the 2018 Flyers draft pick is tied for fifth in BCHL scoring.

2020 recruit Braden Doyle assisted on a pair of goals in Dubuque’s 9-2 rout of the NTDP U17s. Former Terrier Mark Cheremeta had a goal and two helpers for the Fighting Saints. With 23 points, Doyle is second among USHL defensemen. 2021 recruit Tyler Boucher had a goal for the U17s.



Looking back

Brady Tkachuk has been added to the NHL all-star game roster as a replacement for injured Auston Matthews. Tkachuk, who will join his brother, Matthew, as well as Jack Eichel, at the all-star game in St. Louis on Sunday, has 15 goals and 27 points for Ottawa in his second pro season.

Brandon Yip, currently captain of the KHL Kunlun Red Stars, played in the recent all-star game in Moscow. He has 13 goals and 10 assists for the Beijing-based Red Stars. A high-scoring member of BU’s 2009 national champions, Yip scored the Hockey East Championship game-winning goal in both his freshman and senior years.

Women’s Team 
#7/8 Terriers begin a home-and-home series with Merrimack, beginning with tonight’s game at Walter Brown Arena with puck drop set for 7 p.m.  BU has won nine of its last 11 with one tie and is tied with BC for second place in Hockey East.

The teams met in BU’s second game of the season and played to a 2-2 tie.

The Terriers’ strength has been its defense and goaltending, which has produced a 1.59 GAA and a .940 save percentage. The offense is producing just shy of three goals a game, led by seniors Sammy Davis (26 points) and Abby Cook (19), juniors Jesse Compher (18) and Nara Elia (18).
