At USA Arena in Plymouth,
Michigan, BU defeated the NTDP U18s in a shootout, 4-3. Sam Tucker turned aside
30 shots, including both shootout attempts he faced, while 2020 recruit Drew
Commesso impressed, stopping 38 shots.
After a scoreless first period,
2020 recruit Luke Tuch opened the scoring seven minutes into the second,
completing a 2-on-1 rush with a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Tucker. BU responded quickly, scoring on a power play. Matt Quercia centered a
pass to Wilmer Skoog, who dropped a pass to Ethan Phillips for the finish.
Less than a minute later, BU
took the lead as Alex Brink converted a rebound, following Alex Vlasic’s shot
from the left point with Jack DeBoer also assisting. But before the period
ended Chase Yoder completed a pretty passing play with a wrist shot from the
bottom of the left circle to tie the score at 2-2.
Early in the third, Yoder scored
again, sliding home a rebound after Tucker had made multiple saves. With under
five minutes left in regulation, Patrick Curry corralled a loose puck at the
USA blueline, skated to the right circle and, using a defenseman as a screen,
ripped a shot past Commesso for the equalizer.
After 5x5 and 3x3 overtime
sessions failed to produce a result, the teams went to a shootout. Both Skoog
and defenseman Kasper Kotkansalo scored while Tucker stopped both U18 attempts
to give BU a hard-fought win.
