Captain Patrick Curry’s goal with
2:14 remaining in regulation pulled the Terriers even at 2-2 for a hard-fought
overtime time with #12 UMass Lowell at the Tsongas Center. BU came from behind
twice—Gabriel Chabot had the Terrier's first goal—to take three of four points from
the River Hawks and remain in fifth place, just a point behind BC, Providence
and Lowell.
The hosts struck first when, midway through the opening period, Chase Blackmun converted a rebound from just outside the crease after Ashton Abel stopped an initial shot batted out of the air by Matt Brown.
After Curry was unable to complete a breakaway, BU drew even at 16:34 of the second period. Chabot took a between-the-legs Trevor Zegras pass just outside the blueline, raced into the offensive zone and wristed a shot from the left circle past Tyler Wall low to the glove side. Moments later, an unmarked Domenick Fensore tested Wall from the left circle.
The River Hawks regained the lead two minutes later on Austin O’Rourke’s one-timer from the slot that beat Abel stick side after the Terriers were unable to clear the puck.
Pressing for an equalizer, BU dominated the final 12 minutes of the third period with a 15-7 shot advantage. With four minutes remaining Logan Cockerill had a grade A opportunity that Wall turned aside. On the game-tying sequence, Jake Wise kept the puck in the Lowell defensive zone and Fensore carried the puck into the right corner and behind the goal line, finding Curry for a quick shot that beat Wall high to the stick side for the captain’s team-leading 13th goal.

Neither team produced a serious scoring threat in the
five-minute overtime. In his second strong effort of the weekend, Abel stopped
25 shots while Wall turned aside 30 BU shots.
Coach Albie O’Connell: “It was a grind-it-out game and
we responded well. We have a resilient team and did a good job of sticking with
it. We put a lot of shots on [Wall] in the third. It was a big point and I’ll
take it. I like the way we’re playing. We’re coming.”

2020 recruit Drew Commesso stopped
32 of 33 Michigan shots—yielding only a power play goal in the game’s final minute—leading
the NTDP U18s to a 4-1 win
over the Wolverines. For the 6’2” netminder, it was his second consecutive win
over a Big 10 team, having backboned a 2-1 win against Minnesota last week.
Fellow recruit Luke Tuch scored his 12th goal midway through the
third period.

2020 recruit Nicholas Zabaneh’s ninth goal was
the game winner in Green Bay’s 4-2
win against Youngstown. The Toronto native earned first-star honors.

#7/8 Terriers received goals from
six skaters to defeat Merrimack, 6-3, at Lawler Rink to conclude a
home-and-home that saw BU earn three points. Senior Abby Cook had a goal and an
assist while classmate Sammy Davis produced three helpers. With the win, BU
moves into second place in the Hockey East race.
After freshman Julia Nearis gave BU an early lead with her 10th goal, Merrimack replied midway through the first period. The Terriers took the lead for good in the middle period on Natasza Tarnowski’s short-hander a minute in and Nara Elia’s power-play tally six minutes later.
Deziray De Sousa’s goal early in the third stretched the lead to 4-1. Merrimack responded with a goal, followed quickly by Nadia Mattivi’s fourth goal. The Warriors narrowed the score to 5-3 before Cook’s power play closed out the scoring.
