First NHL "W" for The Big O

Jake Oettinger stopped 20 of 23 shots in his first NHL regular-season start as Dallas defeated Detroit, 7-3, and improved its record to 4-0-0.  The Minnesota native held the Red Wings scoreless through the first 35 minutes of the game while the Stars built up a 3-0 lead. Oettinger gave up a power play goal and an even strength tally in the third period as Detroit closed to a 4-3 deficit before the Stars added three more goals.

After the game, he said," “I’m just happy to get the first one behind me and just continue to build confidence every time I’m in there. Thankfully, the guys played so well in front of me and made my job really easy tonight. I was just happy to be out there, and really a dream come true.”

MVP of the 2018 Hockey East Championship tournament, Oettinger spent three seasons as BU's primary netminder. He owns the third best career goals against average (2.34) in program history and is tied for the career record in shutouts (13) with John Curry and Jack Ferreira

Oettinger's start was the first by a Terrier goalie in a regular-season NHL game since Matt O’Connor did so for Ottawa on Oct. 11, 2015.
