More ice pics; Coach Daccord publishes; recruit Harvey shines

Led by Captain Logan Cockerill, the Terriers’ pre-season practice continues with key calendar dates approaching: Sept. 25, Red vs. White scrimmage; Oct. 2, exhibition game vs. Holy Cross at Agganis; and, Oct. 8, the 100th season opener at Connecticut.

► BU’s new goaltending coach, Brian Daccord, has authored “How to be a Goalie Parent: A Guide for Goalie Parents of All Levels.”  A Merrimack netminder in the mid-1980s, he is a former goaltending coach for the Boston Bruins, goaltending scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs and director of goaltending operations for the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League. He also is the Founder and President of Stop It Goaltending.

Looking ahead

With a hat trick and an assist, 2022 or 2023 recruit Jack Harvey had a hand in all four Chicago Steel tallies, but the defending Clark Cup champions dropped a 5-4 decision to Muskegon in a shootout. The Stacy, Minn., native rallied Chicago from a 4-2 deficit with his second and third goals in a 2:09 span of the second period and then gave his team an early lead in the shootout.  2022 recruit Quinn Hutson, who had scored the Lumberjacks’ first goal of the game, matched the shootout goal before a teammate provided the game-winner.

Looking back

A bulked-up Shane Bowers, in his third professional season, is looking to make the Colorado Avs roster out of training camp following two AHL seasons. Drafted in the first round--#28 overall—of the 2017 draft by Ottawa, his rights were traded to the Avs, while at BU where he had 53 points during two seasons.

David Warsofksy, a member of the defense corps on BU’s 2009 national champions, has taken his game across the pond, signing with ERC Ingolstadt in Germany’s DEL and joining Chris Bourque on the team’s roster. The Marshfield native, who played a combined 55 games with the Bruins, Devils, Penguins and Avs totaling 11 points, has spent the bulk of his post-BU career in the AHL. In three seasons as a Terrier, he recorded 122 points.

►Standout Bruins center Fred Stanfield, a standout center on the Bruins’ 1970 and 1972 Stanley Cup champions, passed away earlier this week at 77. He was part of the blockbuster trade that also brought Phil Esposito and Ken Hodge to Boston from the Blackhawks.

Fred was the older brother of BU’s Vic Stanfield, a two-time All-American and the all-time points leader among Terrier defensemen with 160, including 70 in 1974-75. As a freshman, he was an emergency call-up to the varsity—due to an injury—for the 1972 NCAA Frozen Four at Boston Garden, where BU repeated as national champions 50 seasons ago and the same season when Fred won his second Cup.
