Friday night failures continue for #11/13 Terriers who lost to #7 Maine, 5-2, at Alfond Arena. The Black Bears scored twice on turnovers and then twice on 5-on-3 power plays to build a 4-0 advantage after two periods. Co-captain Ryan Greene scored a power-play goal and Doug Grimes followed with a tally to cut the deficit in half before Maine closed the scoring with an empty-net goal.

The only score is an otherwise evenly-played first period was a short-hander with BU on a power play. Owen Fowler intercepted a misguided drop pass in the BU zone and beat Max Lacroix with a shot high to the blocker side.

Shots for the opening period were 11-11. The second period was another matter with the Black Bears running up a 16-5 edge.
Following another turnover, early in the second, Frank Djurasevic skated into the BU zone, split the defense and jammed a shot that trickled under Lacroix.

BU's sophomore netminder later stopped a breakaway to prevent Maine from adding to its lead, but penalties to Jack Hughes, Cole Hutson and Brehdan Engum late in the period gave the Black Bears an extended 5-on-3. They cashed in twice. First Thomas Freel scored at 19:30. Then Harrison Scott, Hockey East's leading scorer, scored just as the buzzer was sounding, for a 4-0 lead.
Early in the third period, the Terriers got on the board with their own 5-on-3 goal. Cole Eiserman's shot from the right circle was blocked, but Shane Lachance quickly grabbed the loose puck and slid it to Greene who beat Albin Boija for his fourth goal of the season.

BU scored again, midway through the period, this time on the rush. Matt Copponi brought the puck through the neutral zone and into the Maine end, drawing two defenders to him. He backhanded a saucer pass to Grimes in stride and the sophomore from Brookline rifled a shot past Boija for his first of the season, making it 4-2. Tristan Amonte had the second assist.

That was as close as BU would get. Fowler, who had opened the scoring, added an empty-netter after Pandolfo pulled Lacroix.
Junior forward Quinn Hutson suffered an upper-body injury and is TBD for Saturday's game, a 7 p.m. start at Alfond Arena.● GoTerriers.com recap and box score
