Linkorama; Women's home opener on tap


Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News offers his ranking of The Top 100 Players to Watch in the NCAA in 2019-20.  His list includes seven Terriers: Trevor Zegras #2, Alex Vlasic 21, Ethan Phillips (photo) #30, David Farrance #59, Case McCarthy #85, Robert Mastrosimone #86 and Patrick Harper #96.

► Hockey on Campus, hosted by BU’s Bernie Corbett in conjunction with College Hockey News, is back on SiriusXM’s NHL Radio Network (Ch. 91). It airs Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. ET and Sundays at 7:00 a.m. ET.

Friends of BU Hockey will again be able to enjoy a postgame gathering in the Friends of BU Hockey Lounge following games in Agganis Arena. The lounge will open on Friday, Oct. 18, when the Terriers take on Northern Michigan. Complimentary desserts and coffee will be provided in the space, located next to the Agganis Arena ticket office.

Pregame events are scheduled at home and road games throughout the season. The first gathering in the Friends of BU Hockey Lounge is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, prior to the Northeastern game, and will include a complimentary buffet dinner. Away pregame events include: Providence, Nov. 9, and UMass-Lowell, Jan. 25.

Looking ahead

2020 recruit Cade Webber, a 4th round draft pick of the Hurricanes last June, talked with Carolina blog CBTS, about topics including his volleyball prowess and decision to commit to BU. A 6’6” left-shot defenseman and Massachusetts native, Webber spent the past three seasons playing for Terrier All-American and two-time Stanley Cup winner Shawn McEachern at The Rivers School. Now playing for Penticton in the BCHL, he has five points (2G,3A) in 10 games for the Vees, including the only goal in Penticton’s 1-0 win against Vernon.

The Vee’s top scorer, 2020 recruit Jay O’Brien, scored his sixth goal against Wenatchee in a 5-3 win. He also has 11 assists.

Kevin Shattenkirk scored his third goal of the season in Tampa Bay's 7-3 rout of Toronto.

David Warsofsky, who returned to Penguins organization after spending two seasons with Colorado, has been named captain of the AHL Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins. A standout defenseman on BU’s 2009 national champions, Warsofsky has played 55 NHL games.

Women’s Team

#10 Terriers begin their home slate and their Hockey East schedule  Friday night, hosting Merrimack at Walter Brown Arena with puck drop at 7 p.m. Admission for this game is free. BU is 8-2-2 all time against the Warriors, but was 1-0-2 a year ago.

BU will look to build on its season opening 2-1 win at Union with last season's top conference goal-scorer Sammy Davis delivering both goals and Corrine Schroeder stopping 22 of 23 shots. The team returns 20 players from last season’s Beanpot Champions who also reached the Hockey East tournament semifinals.
