R-O-W honors for Mastrosimone; Women edge Union, 2-1

Freshman Robert Mastrosimone, who assisted on BU's first goal against Union and later banged home the rebound of his own shot for his first collegiate goal, earned Hockey East's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week award.  The second round Red Wings draft pick scored on his first shot and finished +2. Women’s Team
Picking up where she left off last season as BU’s top goal scorer, senior Sammy Davis scored both Terrier goals that produced a 2-1 opening game win against Union in Schenectady. The victory launched Coach Brian Durocher’s fifteenth season behind the BU bench.

An evenly matched first period nearly ended scoreless, but in the final minute Davis gathered a pass from freshman Haylee Blinkhorn just outside the offensive blue line, skated in and beat goalie Bella McKie short side. Abbey Stanley also assisted.

The eventual game-winner came at 14:41 of the second on a power play. At the left post, Davis cashed in the rebound of Kaleigh Donnelly’s shot, with Abby Cook picking up the second assist.

Less than two minutes later, Union’s Leah Herrfort cut the lead in half with an unassisted goal, but that was all the scoring the Dutchwomen would muster.

Corrine Schroeder turned aside 22 shots, including ten in the first period, to earn the win.

The Terriers improved to 6-2-1 in their last nine season openers.
