Beginning tonight #1 BU hosts #3/4 Michigan State for a two-game series that Terrier fans, as well as NHL scouts, have had circled on their calendars for quite a while. Puck drop tonight is at 7 p.m. with ESPN2 and TSN5 airing the broadcast, while ESPN+ provides the livestream. John Buccigross and BU All-American Colby Cohen will be on the call.
The meeting between these two elite brand-name teams might have taken place last March in the NCAA Toledo Regional final, but Cornell rallied for two third-period goals to eliminate the Spartans. BU then edged Cornell in overtime in the final.
BU has a 9-8 edge in the all-time series with the last meeting taking place in October 2014 at Agganis Arena with Ahti Oksanen scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win. A year earlier MSU took a 3-1 decision from BU at Munn Arena. The Spartans' only other visit to Agganis was in the 2008 Ice Breaker title game, a 2-1 BU win on goals from Chris Higgins and Kevin Shattenkirk.

Michigan State, who won the Big 10 title last Spring defeating Ohio State in overtime, stands at 1-1-0 after splitting a home ice series with New Hampshire.
On offense, the Spartans lost three of their top six scorers, led by Hobey Baker Award winner Isaac Howard, but there is plenty of firepower to contend with. Senior Charlie Stramel had a 9-18-27 line while classmate Daniel Russell is the top returning goal-scorer with 13 (25 points). There are three first-round draft pick freshmen: power forwards Cayden Lindstrom and Porter Martone were the fourth and sixth picks overall. Sniper Ryker Lee was taken at #26.
The defense is led by senior Matt Basgall—first team All-Big Ten and second team All-American—who put up 26 points last season and junior Maxim Strbak, a Buffalo second-round pick who had 19.
Junior Trey Augustine (2.08, .924, 3 SO) was the Big 10’s top goalie, a league all-star and first-team All-American. He led the U.S. Junior National Team to World Junior Championship gold the past two winters and was a Richter Award finalist last season.
In his weekly media call, Coach Jay Pandolfo described the series as "a great test overall for our whole team. Throwing the young players right into the fire this early on is great.
"Even before the Hockey East season," he explained, "to have a team like Michigan State coming in and have that experience will be very beneficial down the road. We want to make sure to have a good solid effort and be ready to play because I know the way they play, they’re going to be ready and it’s going to be a difficult game."
Pandolfo also reported that Sacha Boisvert had practiced the past two days and expects him to be in the lineup. "With him back in the lineup, it gives us more depth up front and hopefully we can keep four lines rolling together."
Regarding the match-up of Yegorov and Augustine, he said, "Both [are] highly-touted goaltenders. Augustine has a little more experience than Big Mike does, but Big Mike gained a lot of experience in half a season all the way to the final game. So he's coming in this year a little more comfortable knowing what to expect. Should be a great match-up."
tw-align-centerI wanted to share a comment from BU Head Coach Jay Pandolfo this week about Bruins' draft pick John Morello:
— Bridgette Proulx (@bridgetteproulx) October 16, 2025
He said: "I really like his game. He's a very responsible player. He can really skate. He's a 200-foot centerman that wins faceoffs. He's very good defensively and he's…

An injury opened the door for Ryan Greene to take a regular shift as the Blackhawks' fourth-line center and he's been proving he's ready for the Big Show.

During training camp, [Coach Jeff] Blashill said he discussed with Greene about “skating into battles,” and since then, he has been impressed by what he has seen.
“I’ve been happy with Greener. You know, I think he’s made a lot of strides since the first couple of games of rookie camp. You know, I would have told you then that he needed to change certain things if he wanted to be a guy who could play on this team this year. He has. I say, he’s done a way better job of winning puck battles. He’s done a way better job of playing from the right side of the puck.”
