It was a matter of inches and it was the difference between a come-from-behind, last minute win and an overtime tie. Sascha Boumedienne's rocket from the left point with 44 seconds remaining in regulation appeared to give the #3 Terriers a 3-2 lead. However, Colgate's challenge for offside on the preceding zone entry was upheld and the goal was wiped away.
Instead the Terriers, who twice had erased one-goal deficits, had to settle for a 2-2 overtime tie with a Colgate squad that presented a considerably bigger challenge than they had on Friday.

Game stats might suggest BU played a strong game, but ran into a hot goalie. Terriers had the edge in shots, 35-25, and at the face off dot, 37-24, and had more O-zone time. But Head Coach Jay Pandolfo didn't see it that way.
"Disappointed with our start." he said. "They came ready to play. We didn’t. Yes, we pushed back in the second and third, but our habits were horrendous. I think our guys wanted an easy night and they weren’t going to give us one."
Cole Hutson noted the disparity in compete levels between the teams, pointing out, "No team loves losing twice. We knew they were gonna be hard like they were the night before, but that game obviously meant a lot more for them."
Freshman Jack Murtagh, who scored BU's second goal, added, "We need better starts as a whole. We realized that in the second period, then we picked it up."
From the get-go, BU's effort was far from the crisp, on-top-of-opposing-skaters effort of Friday night. Turnovers and dropped passes blunted the Terriers attack and created scoring chances for Colgate.
BU's best chance came when Cole Eiserman collected a rebound and sent it through the crease behind goalie Andrew Takacs, who authored a strong game.
Midway through the period, freshman Charlie Trethewey had his pocket picked in the defensive zone by Max Nagel who skated into the left circle, then quickly found a trailing Ryan Sullivan for a shot past Mikhail Yegorov's glove.
BU had two full power plays and a partial one in the period that produced four shots and no goals.
Terriers nearly tied the score early in the period when Brandon Svoboda set up Murtagh in the slot, but Takacs made a glove save. They did tie it minutes later when Cole Eiserman disrupted a Colgate defender in the offensive zone. The puck went to Ritchie creating a two-on-one between the circles. The freshman dished the puck back to Eiserman who beat Takacs to the stick side for his fifth goal of the young season.

BU immediately had another power-play opportunity but was unable to convert.
Colgate regained the lead just two minutes into the third period when Antonio Fernandes' shot from the point sailed past Yegorov, who appeared to be screened by a BU defender. The lead lasted less than three minutes. Murtagh, who had been hunting pucks all night, broke up a play inside the Raiders' blue line. He raced toward the net and went forehand-backhand to beat Takacs for his first collegiate goal.

Terriers carried the play for most of the last 15 minutes of regulation, outshooting Colgate 11-5 in the period. Murtagh, Eiserman and Jack Harvey each had a pair of shots as BU looked to take the lead. Boudmedienne's blast in the final minute set up brief euphoria in the arena and then the goal was waived off.
A Kamil Bednarik tripping penalty that limited BU's scoring opportunities in overtime was killed off and neither team was able to produce a game-winner. The tie was the first in the 34 games between the schools.
BU claimed the shootout as Eiserman and Harvey converted their shots while Colgate's attempts to beat Yegorov failed. The 6'5" Russian goalie had also kept his net clean in his only prior shoot out experience at BU, a 2-2 tie with UConn last season.
With all four Colgate power plays killed, BU is 13 of 14 on the PK for a .928 success rate. Terriers failed to score a power play goal for the first time this season.
Colgate goalie Takacs stopped 33 of 35 BU shots and was supported by 19 blocked shots.
After the game, Pandolfo spoke about the strong game from freshman wing Jack Murtagh. "He was the only guy that showed up in the first period that was ready to play, that was driving, that was trying to get to the net, and it carried over for him."
Sophomore center Sacha Boisvert, who sat out Friday's game, didn't see ice time after the first period last night. Pandolfo explained, "He felt good this morning... in warm-ups, and then once the
game started, he just didn't feel as good. He just felt like he wasn't helping
the team."
