- Like Jay, I thought Saturday’s game was a better performance despite still officially being a loss. Michigan State is a highly talented and very well coached team. I fully expect they will be a top 4 team throughout the season. For a team as young as ours (youngest in D1), there are going to be bumps in the road, and this weekend was certainly one of them.
- It was certainly a tough way to lose after a great comeback. But apparently with NPI (replacing Pairwise) an OT loss still gives us 40% of a win, versus 60% for MSU.
- This team is definitely missing the steady play of Tom Willander. While Sascha Boumedienne has played okay though defensively, I don’t think he has taken the step forward we all expected after he finished the season so strongly. I do like his instinct to get shots on net though.
- It appears that Carter Amico is getting the most ice time among the freshmen d-men and I think it is deserved. Charlie Tretheway is still adjusting to the speed of D-1. Malte Vass has been okay, too, but hasn’t been playing the physical game I had expected from him.
- The play of Jack Murtagh is a perfect example of what is common with 17 and 18 year old freshmen. Last weekend he looked phenomenal. Saturday night, he made a very poor decision on a cross-ice pass that resulted in an easy goal for the Spartans.
- Good for Ben Merrill to get a couple big assists last night. We need guys like Brandon Svoboda, Jonathan Morello and him to be scoring threats if we want to remain a top-5 team.
- Also great to see Kamil Bednarik show a nice scoring touch on his SHG. I hope that gets him going and lead to an 8 to10 goal season.
- Right now, Hockey East is a distant third behind the Big 10 and the NCHC in terms of inter conference records, which means we are likely to get only 3 teams into the NCAA’s. So this team needs to be sure they are among that group.

More analysis comes from the Boston Hockey Blog's Sam Robb O'Hagen.

“We won more battles down low,” BU head coach Jay Pandolfo said of Saturday’s game. “Yesterday, in the offensive zone, honestly I could count on one hand how many legit battles we won down low. Tonight was a lot better.”

Pandolfo mentioned both Svoboda and Merrill when asked for a player he was particularly impressed with on Saturday, citing the pair’s physicality and ability to win battles.

SNL (Saturday Night Leftovers)

Saturday Night was Jack Parker Hall of Fame Night in honor of the legendary 40-season Terrier coach's upcoming induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. It began with a ceremonial puck drop and a special Hall of Fame video.

Terrier fans received received a special Jack Parker poster featuring his coaching career highlights and list of his players who reached the NHL, who played in the Olympic Games and who won the Stanley Cup.

Parker joined Voice of the Terriers Bernie Corbett for a between the period interview. Talking about the BU Hockey program that has been part of his life for 60+ years, he called it "this thing of ours," calling out a line his favorite movie, "The Godfather."

Parker's former players and assistant coaches turned out en masse to honor him. A private reception was held for Jack and his "sons."  [We're working on a list of names. Check back]

Saturday's announced attendance of 7,033 appears to have been a typo. It's now been corrected to 6,040. Agganis Arena's capacity for hockey is 6,150.

Cole Eiserman's almost-game-winner and the ensuing Michigan State goal still has the internet hockey community buzzing. Here's an overhead view showing how close BU came to a comeback win.

BU has had more than a few moments as the #1 ESPN Play of the Day. Saturday brought one more despite the unhappy frustrating result.

Looking back

Lane Hutson's first goal of the season was the game-winner as Montreal doubled up Buffalo, 4-2

When you're hot, you're hot. A little puck luck resulted in Jack Eichel's sixth goal as Vegas defeated Carolina, 4-1. The former Hobey Baker Award winner remains atop the NHL scoring chart with 16 points.

Clayton Keller scored his second goal and added an assist as Utah edged the Bruins, 3-2. Charlie McAvoy recorded a helper for Boston.

Quinn Hutson's unassisted tally was both the game-winner and his first professional goal as Bakersfield edged San Jose, 2-1, in AHL action.

Women's Team

Despite remaining winless (0-5-0), the Terriers are still ranked in the USCHO Division 1 Poll, coming in at #15. BU will look to get off the schneid on Friday when they host New Hampshire.

And finally, there’s Watchorn’s infectious, unwavering, impossibly resilient energy. “She loves BU. She thinks about BU constantly,” former assistant coach Reagan Rust says. “Like, 24/7.” When Watchorn returned as head coach in 2023, she took over a team that hadn’t had a winning season since before the pandemic and immediately began reminding her players of all the things about BU they should be grateful for.

Jesse Compher, a former BU captain, also was named to the U.S. roster for the 2025 #RivalrySeries that begins Nov. 6. She won a gold medal with Team USA in the Women's World Championships last Spring.
