Abel, who joined BU last month after generating a 2.16 GAA and .910 save percentage in 26 games for AJHL Okotoks Oilers, stopped 37 shots in Monday's Beanpot semifinal as BU advanced with a 5-4 2OT win against BC. Women’s Team

A pair of third-period goals by junior Jesse Compher broke open a 1-0 game while classmate Corinne Schroeder handled all 33 shots as #8 Terriers blanked Boston College, 4-0, in the Beanpot semifinal at Agganis Arena. BU will have an opportunity to defend the tournament title it won a year ago when it faces Northeastern next Tuesday.

Six minutes into the opening period, senior Abby Cook rifled home a one-timer from the blue line, assisted by seniors Sammy Davis and Natasza Tarnowski.  The 1-0 lead held up through a scoreless second period.

In the first minute of the third period, junior Nara Elia broke into the Eagle zone on a 2-on-1 with Compher, waited for the defenseman to commit and slid a pass to her classmate for a tap-in tally. And then two minutes later, Compher struck again when sophomore Mackenna Parker forced a neutral zone turnover. Using a defenseman as a screen, Compher beat BC’s Maddy McArthur under the bar. Deziray De Sousa’s empty-net goal closed the scoring.

Coach Brian Durocher: “I’m excited about the four goals and excited that we defended well.”

Schroeder gave credit to her defense, noting: “The tough ones were usually the ones where I couldn’t see the puck, they had good front-net presence there. My defense did a good job to clear them out of the way or at least give me a sight-line so I could see the puck.”
