Captain Patrick Curry’s team-leading 16th goal
and Sam Tucker’s 30-save effort led BU to a 3-1 win over New Hampshire at
Agganis Arena and a sweep of the weekend home-and-home. The win—hardly the
prettiest of the season—vaulted BU into third place in Hockey
East, just a point behind BC and UMass.
BU was outshot 27-10 over the first two periods, but
emerged with a 2-1 lead going into the final 20 minutes.
The visitors took the lead just 1:24 into the game when
BU was unable to clear the zone and Liam Blackburn wristed home a shot from the
high slot that appeared to be deflected. Minutes later, Robert Mastrosimone had
a breakaway, but fired high over the cage.
Still in the opening period, a major penalty on UNH gave the
Terriers an extended power play. Case McCarthy slid the puck from the left
boards to Wilmer Skoog at the goalmouth. He moved the puck from forehand to
backhand to get around goalie Mike Robinson and lift the puck into the net. Jamie Armstrong also assisted.

Despite
New Hampshire’s territorial edge in the second period, BU produced the only
goal—although the Wildcats had a tally waived off for a high stick. At 15:04 Domenick Fensore kept the puck in the
UNH zone, skated down the right side past the goal line and put the puck on
Curry’s stick just outside the crease. The captain lifted a shot past Robinson
for a 2-1 lead.

Protecting
the narrow lead, BU effectively clamped down on the Wildcats throughout the final
period, limiting them to just four shots. Early in the period, Patrick Harper
and Trevor Zegras broke in on a 2 on-1 but couldn’t complete the play. Late in
the period, the Terriers kept UNH bottled up in their own end and when they
finally pulled the goal for an extra attacker, Logan Cockerill, who had rung a
shot off iron late in the second period, hit the empty net in the final minute
to seal the win.

BU
swept the season series with the Wildcats, having defeated them in October,
3-0. Tucker was in goal for all three games, yielding just two goals. The Terriers are now 10-0-2 in their last dozen games against UNH.
