Quercia sidelined; Women face Maine in QF round


Terriers are preparing for Saturday night's home game against BC. They'll be without sophomore forward Matt Quercia for the rest of the season due to an upper body injury. 
1980 Olympic Gold Medal winners Jim Craig, Mike Eruzione, Jack O'Callahan and David Silk will be honored during the game.

Looking ahead

2020 recruit Jay O’Brien has been named a first-team BCHL all-star. The Flyers’ first round pick in 2018 was third in the league in points per game (1.43) and led the Penticton Vees in both goals (25) and points (66) in 46 games. O’Brien had a goal and an assist last night in the Vees’ 7-1 win against West Kelowna in their playoff opener.

2020 recruit Luke Tuch scored his 15th goal and Dylan Peterson added an assist in the NTDP U18s’ 5-4 win against Youngstown. Drew Commesso stopped 16 shots to improve his record to 18-6-0-1. 



2020 recruit Nicholas Zabaneh scored his 11th goal in Green Bay’s 3-1 win against Des Moines. 

Looking back 
Charlie Coyle scored his 16th goal in the Bruins’ 4-3 win against Dallas.  Charlie McAvoy had an assist for Boston. 

Jordan Greenway scored his eighth goal in Minnesota’s 7-1 win against Detroit. 

Evan Rodrigues has been traded by the Sabres to Pittsburgh. Rodrigues, who had recently requested a trade, had nine points (5G,4A) in 38 games for Buffalo.

Former Terrier All-American goalie Jack Ferreira has been named to the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame. He holds the Terrier record for shutouts in a season (8), is tied for most career shutouts (13, tied with Jake Oettinger and John Curry) and is tied for second in most wins in a season (25).


Women’s Team

#8 Terriers begin their quarterfinal Hockey East playoff series with Maine at Walter Brown Arena tonight. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. for the first contest in the best-of-three between second seed BU and seventh seed Maine. The game will be live streamed on CBS All-Access. Game two will be Saturday at 3 p.m. and, if needed, a third game on Sunday will be at 3 p.m.

Making their 11th quarterfinal appearance, BU will look to advance to the semifinals for a 10th time. Terriers have won the Hockey East title five times.

In three regular-season meetings, BU defeated the Black Bears in Orono, 3-1, in October, then in a January home series, BU won, 3-2, in overtime and tied, 3-3.

BU is 8-1-1 (including the Beanpot Final tie/2OT loss) in it’s past ten games, with wins in the last four starts. Senior Sammy Davis is the top goal-scorer (17) and point-scorer (41). Classmate Abby Cook has 29 points, followed by juniors Jesse Compher (28) and Nara Elia (28). Junior goalie Corinne Schroeder is second in the conference in both GAA (1.48) and save percentage (.944).

For Maine, Tereza VaniÅ¡ová is the points leader with 31, while Ida Kuoppala has 29 points and 17 goals.

Compher has been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team that will play in the World Championships in Canada in April. She helped the U.S. win gold last season in the World’s in Finland.
