With a disappointing performance, BU dropped a 5-1
decision to Merrimack at Agganis Arena. It was the Terriers’ first loss at home
in more than two months, and with the loss, BU slips to fifth in the Hockey
East standings, a point behind Maine.
Despite outshooting Merrimack 37-28, BU managed to beat goalie Jere Huhtamaa just once.
Terriers took an early lead on Robert Mastrosimone’s short-handed goal at 2:49. Sam Stevens carried the puck into the Merrimack zone and sent it to Case McCarthy along the right boards. He centered the puck to Mastrosimone, who deked the goalie and slid the puck home.

Late in the period Dominic Dockery tied the
score when his blueline blast deflected in off a BU defender. The second period
proved to be the turning point of the game. BU fired 19 shots on Huhtamaa,
including eight on a trio of power plays, but couldn’t beat the Finnish
netminder. Merrimack took control on the scoreboard as Tyler Irvine and Logan
Drevitch each scored shorthanded goals.
Amy hopes for a third-period comeback were
dashed when Patrick Holway scored mid-way through the period and Regan Kimens
added a fifth goal three-and-a-half minutes later.
