Swept!

Connecticut broke open a 2-1 game with four goals in the final period, en route to a 6-1 win over the Terriers, sweeping the home-and-home series. Alexander Payusov, who scored the overtime winner Friday night, tallied a hat trick, including a goal just 41 seconds into the third period. Patrick Curry’s 17th goal, on a power play, was the sole tally for BU.

BU, which went into the weekend, just a point behind first-place BC, now drops to sixth place in Hockey East and faces an uphill battle to gain home ice in the conference tournament.

Disappointed in his team’s lack of intensity, especially in the third period, Coach Albie O’Connell said: “We didn’t play with a lot of purpose in anything we did. We refused to play the right way.”

Freshman Ashton Abel (five goals, 28 saves) was relieved in the game by senior Nico Lynch (one goal, four saves).

A lone bright spot for BU: With his assist on Curry’s goal, David Farrance has 39 points, passing Matt Grzelcyk’s 38 in 2014-15, to become the highest scoring Terrier defenseman since Tom Poti’s 42 in 1997-98.

Looking ahead
Three BU recruits helped lead the North Jersey Avalanche to title game wins in the 16U and 18U divisions of the Northeast Pack. Lane Hutson (2022) had a goal and three assists for the 16Us while goalie Anton Castro was strong in goal in a 4-3 win against the Rhode Island Saints. Quinn Hutson (2021) scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the way for the U18s who beat the Saints, 3-1.

2020 recruit Jay O'Brien scored the overtime game-winner-- his 25th tally--in Penticton's 4-3 win against Wenatchee as the Vees concluded BCHL regular season play. O'Brien, who also had an assist, has 66 points, tied for fourth in the league.

Women’s Team

The #8/9 Terriers closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win against Connecticut and a sweep of the weekend series at Walter Brown Arena.  BU received first period goals from seniors Natasza Tarnowski and Abby Cook and junior Nara Elia, with Tarnowski and Elia each adding an assist.

Junior Corinne Schroeder stopped 32 shots and finished the regular season with .944 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average.

BU finishes second in the conference race and will host #7 Maine next weekend in the Hockey East tournament quarterfinals.
