Terrier fall in Agganis finale; will face UML on the road

Terriers dropped a 2-1 decision to Northeastern on Senior Day at Agganis, as a third-period rally fell short. With the loss, BU finishes sixth in Hockey East (10-9-5, 13-13-8 overall) and will face UMass Lowell in the conference quarterfinals, beginning Friday.

Northeastern opened the scoring midway through the opening period on a power play when Aiden McDonough, unmarked in the right circle, ripped a shot past Sam Tucker.

BU dominated the second period with a 12-7 shot advantage, but couldn’t beat Craig Pantano. An apparent goal by Cam Crotty late in the period was disallowed.

The Huskies doubled their lead just 43 seconds into the final period as Matt Fillipe gained position at the goalmouth and converted a rebound.

Minutes later, BU scored on a power play, although it took an official’s review to confirm the tally. Patrick Harper’s shot from the left point appeared to hit the post and play continued; after a video review, it was confirmed that the puck had crossed the goal line. Patrick Curry and Trevor Zegras had the assists.

In the final minutes with BU on another power play, the Terriers pulled the goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage and pressed for an equalizer. Harper’s shot from the top of the right circle rang off iron and the Huskies came away with a win, putting them into the playoffs.
