For the second night in a row, BU scored an extra
attacker goal in the game’s final minutes, but Saturday night’s tally by
sophomore Matt Quercia at 17:34 enabled the Terriers to pull even with Maine
for a 2-2 overtime tie at Alfond Arena.
BU outshot the Black Bears again (37-25) but found
beating goalie Jeremy Swayman a daunting challenge.
Maine took a 1-0 lead early in the first period when Tim
Doherty converted a rebound after BU’s Sam Tucker stopped a shot from the
point.
BU held a territorial and shot advantage in the middle
period and finally solved Swayman at 11:52 when Quercia found freshman Trevor
Zegras behind the Black Bear defense. Falling to one knee, Zegras beat the goalie
high to the glove side with junior Kasper Kotkansalo also picking up an assist.

BU nearly took the lead late in the period
when freshman Jamie Armstrong beat the Maine defense to a puck in the corner
and fed it to classmate Robert Mastrosimone, who was stymied by Swayman.
The Black Bears regained the lead early in
the third period when Adrien Bisson’s shot from the point deflected off a
Terrier defenseman and past Tucker. BU pressed for an equalizer, throwing 18 shots
on goal. With two-and-half minutes remaining in regulation and an offensive
zone face off, Coach Albie O’Connell pulled Tucker for an extra attacker.

The puck came back to junior David Farrance
whose wrister deflected up into Swayman’s chest. Captain Patrick Curry pushed
the rebound through the goalie’s five-hole and Quercia pushed it across the
goal line to knot the score at 2-2. Neither team could produce a winner in
overtime although Tucker was forced to make one more tough save for a total of
23.
O'Connell was pleased with his team's resiliance after falling behind early, noting "We had some push-back in the second that got us to the third [with] a little bit of momentum. We just stuck with it."
BU played without all three assistant captains—Logan Cockerill, Cam Crotty, and Patrick Harper—who were sidelined with injuries.
