A pair of third-period power play goals by junior David
Farrance rallied BU to a 3-3 overtime time tie with Providence at Agganis Arena
on First Responders Night. Freshman Trevor Zegras scored the Terriers’ first
goal and assisted on both of Farrance’s tallies and senior Patrick Harper contributed
a pair of helpers.
Following a scoreless opening period that saw graduate transfer goalie Sam Tucker stop several grade A chances, the Terriers connected early in the second. Patrick Harper circled the Friars’ net, whirled and found Zegras at the goalmouth. He shoveled the puck past Michael Lackey to give BU the lead. It took Providence just over a minute to answer as Greg Printz redirected Albin Nillson’s wrist shot off a Terrier and past Tucker.

After BU nearly re-took the lead when captain Patrick Curry’s blast
rang off the post, Providence scored again. A turnover allowed Printz to get behind
the Terrier defense and he wristed a shot home glove side. Late in the period,
the Friars went on a power play and took just 19 seconds to score. Patrick
Moynihan took a pass for national scoring leader Jack Dugan and beat Tucker
from the bottom of the left circle. Despite
a 24-16 shots advantage, BU trailed 3-1 after two periods.
Early in the third, a PC penalty provided a opportunity to narrow the margin. Zegras dropped a pass to freshman Robert Mastrosimone, who swung the puck to Farrance in the high slot for a one-time that beat Lackey glove side. Terriers pressed the attack and killed a Providence power play with no shots allowed.Great vision from Zegras and Mastro to set up Farrance for the power play goal! pic.twitter.com/fGdOtUqvhZ— BU Men's Hockey (@TerrierHockey) November 9, 2019

BU went back on the
man-advantage with just over three shots remaining and followed the same
formula to tie the game: a Harper drop pass to Zegras who set up another
Farrance one-timer, this time from center point, to knot the score at three.
A questionable penalty on sophomore Matt Quercia at 17:56 gave the
visitors a chance to regain the lead, but Tucker came up big, stopping Printz’s
attempt to convert a rebound at the crease. In overtime, a major penalty on Providence led
to several scoring opportunities. Curry snaked a pass to Mastrosimone in close,
but Lackey’s skate save denied him a game-winner.
BU held a 38-25 shot advantage for the game, with 12 shots coming on six power plays.
Coach Albie O’Connell: "I’m very happy with the way we played tonight. We played hard from the start of the game to the end. It was a really hard test for our guys and our guys handled the challenge, tied it up in the third and had a chance to win in overtime."
