BU Hockey Writer Scott Weighart sat down with Ty Amonte after Saturday’s win to discuss the senior center’s long road back to the line-up after missing nearly all of the past two seasons due to injuries.  Amonte, who had an 8-8-16 scoring line in his last full season, scored on his first shot of the season, just two minutes into the 8-6 victory.

A few takeaways from today’s media call with Coach Albie O'Connell:

-He really liked BU’s 5-on-5 play on Saturday, but having to kill eight penalties disrupted the offensive flow.

-Merrimack did a better job on special teams, particularly due to face off wins.

-Saturday’s win was a big step forward in shooting the puck rather than making “fancy passes.” Case in point was Dylan Peterson’s short-hander.

-Thus far, he’s pleased with the team’s depth, especially with so many injuries, and, until the last game, with penalty killing.

-Re the Lowell series, BU needs to:

1.  be alert from first face off and manage the puck well. UML is a strong defensive team that gets sticks on pucks and can make it hard to leave the defensive zone.

2. make good decisions to get its skating game going.

3. be competitive but disciplined—play smart.

-Matt Brown has skated in practice and O’Connell hopes he’ll be in the line-up this weekend.
