River Hawks complete sweep

UMass Lowell scored goals in the first and second period and edged BU, 2-1, for a sweep of the home-and-home. The Terriers got an extra-attacker goal from Case McCarthy late in the third period, but could not produce an equalizer. The loss leaves BU with a 3-5-0 record.

The Terriers appeared to take the lead 11 minutes into the first period when Dylan Peterson set up Tyler Boucher between the circle for a one-timer that Jamie Armstrong redirected home, but it was whistled off for goaltender interference.

With less than two minutes left in the period, Lowell set up in the offensive zone and Ben Meehan’s hard wrister from the top of the left circle beat Drew Commesso for a 1-0 lead.

Late in the second period, a BU turnover at the offensive zone blueline led to a short-handed two-on-one that Lucas Condotta cashed to double the lead.

With the River Hawks clamping down on the Terriers, third-period scoring chances were hard to come by. Peterson clanged a shot off the posts and Max Kaufman’s attempt from the slot was stopped by Owen Savory.

With Commesso pulled for an extra attacker, BU finally broke the scoreless streak. Robert Mastrosimone freed the puck from a scrum along the left boards and found McCarthy in the high slot for a wrist shot that beat Savory high to the glove side at 18:25. It was as close as the Terriers would get.
