Blanked

#19 BU dropped a 3-0 decision to UMass Lowell at Agganis Arena on a night when the hockey program paid tribute to the late Travis Roy, exactly one year after his passing. The Terriers all wore #24 jerseys with Roy's name on the back and a pre-game ceremony featured a video tribute.

Despite being outshot by the Terriers, 29-22, the River Hawks had a territorial advantage and effectively caused turnovers along the boards throughout the game.

After Robert Mastrosimone was stopped on a breakaway by Owen Savory, Lowell captain Anders Lee collected the long rebound of an Alex Vlasic shot and skated in alone on Drew Commesso, and scored high to the glove side.

Midway through the second period, Domenick Fensore raced into the offensive zone and fired a shot on Savory, who made the saves and stopped rebound chances in tight by Ty Amonte and Dylan Peterson.  Moments later, Lee was set up in the right circle on a backdoor play for his second tally.

Late in the period, Lowell scored on the rush as Reid Stefanson took a feed in the high slot, fired and followed his shot to the net as it trickled through Commesso.

The teams will complete the home-and-home Saturday at Tsongas Arena with puck drop at 6:05 p.m.

Women’s Team

The Catamounts took a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the opening period. After a scoreless second period, BU pressed for an equalizer and finally drew even early in the third period when senior Emma Wuthrich scored her third goal, assisted by Julia Shaunessy and Haylee Blinkhorn. Both goals came on deflections off defenders.

In overtime, Kate Stuart stopped a clean breakaway to keep the score tied. Correia, BU’s top scorer with 10 points, was first up in the shootout and her tally on a deke and backhand stood up as the winner.

Stuart stopped 23 shots as BU improved to 4-1-3 overall and 3-0-3 in the conference.
